Trick or Treat?

Rain and wind in the forecast but needed to catch our dinner for this week so headed out with Al Ah Nee on the Red Sea boat.  Found some birds working with mahi mahi but no bites so headed out to find another pile then...

Hookup!  Hanapaa!  Rigger pops and we are on!  Al and I work the fish to the boat pretty fast then somehow the fish shakes the hook at the boat.  Bummed we reset and head back out and get another slammer.

This one was a keeper!  Yellowfin tuna in October?  What!  Yeah Ahi Feevah baby!  The tail whacks my shin and gets one more laugh on me before we gill and gut um.

As Al does the dirty work I ice down my leg and reset our lines.  We get another hit and now get two in the boat plus snag a aku by the tail.  Things quieted down and the bite stopped so took the long road home and called it a day and waters got even rougher.

Fish was on ice, everyone happy and we were ready to head in.

Trick or treat?  Smell my feet, I need something good to eat!

Thankful for all my crew on board and at the ramp.  Teamwork makes it all happen!

Ahi feevah

Working on the next hsdtv show.

See Al catch his first ahi

Another swell

Buoys came up so picked up Wade and headed up to grab a few. 20 wave sets started rolling through and everyone got good waves. So far it's been a good winter! Here Mike and Wade talking with neighbor about fishing, so my ears perked up. Ha ha!

Ehukai Surf

Surfed ehukai with Wade Tokoro and Timmy Rezentes today. Mixing up the scene surfing other spots.  Kinds feels like surfing Portugal or something.  Billy Kemper and Nathan Florence also paddled out later for a few waves.  Still windy but doable for those die hard surfers.

My Ice Maker

Morning session surfing up north with overhead waves with the boys.  Good to see my high school friends still ripping.
This is my manual ice maker.  Large ice blocks for big fish.

Small ice cubes for smaller fish.  You know how many yogurt I ate to get these cups?

Perfect size and shape to not damage the fish and not melt so fast as compared to those ice you buy in stores.  Take a while to make 100 lbs but worth it when you want to eat fresh fish like me.

Windy days

Lots of wind thru the weekend. 1033 millibar high pressure continues to cause this strong winds. Great week to clean up and get ready for the expo next week or dry some fish?

No bully my malolo

Surf is small and winds backed off so time to head to the seafood market for my families dinner this week.  I really enjoy catching my own food and knowing that what we eat is fresh and healthy.  No preservatives, carbon dioxide, or pesticides added.

Brent Ching wanted to fish too so he came on board to join the fun.

When this little flying fish "Malolo" flew on my boat first light I knew it was going to be a good day.  When does fish ever fly into the boat?  Well this one did probably because he was being chased by some bullies.  So we set our lines and went looking for these bullies.

Today's load with a mix plate of Otaru, Shibi, Mahi, Hebi and Akus for our dinner.  These were the bullies trying to eat that little malolo.

Our favorite fishes for some fresh sashimi.  Time to start cleaning fish...

Amazing!

Amazing day on the water from dawn to dusk. Full story to come...

Salty Saturday

Surfed up north today for quick session with the boys.  Little bumpy and dropping swell so came home early to start making more Red Sea salt.  Lots of love and care put into making it perfect.  October 29/30 is the Fish/Dive expo so we may have some for sale there.  Come by to the blaisdell arena.

Looks like a pie crust.  Let it cool down and start packing.  Ready for some fresh poke now.

Fun Friday

Happy Aloha Friday.  Fun surf up north as swell continues to drop but still got overhead waves and decent crowd.  One day I'll get a shot of the waves but until then check out the magic Tokoro board.

Red Sea salt in works this weekend!

We need to go fishing soon so we can restock our pupus.  Dried aku goes for $25 per pound in stores.
