Summer Slumber

More summer slumber surf on our south shores. Not much in the forecast either so time to go search for swells. I know one destination that has been pumping!
Saw this classic Datsun pick up truck on the road. Would u believe we had one back in the day. Drive 400k miles with the same clutch. Yup standard shift. Those were the days.

Last Ahi of the Season

Got my last opportunity to chase ahis with my good friend Wendell Ko today.
Also Jared Park joined the party and we were off to look for fish.
Not much action but eagle eye Jared spotted some birds, then as we got closer we found the porpoise.
Wendell positions his boat then Bam!
20 minutes later we see color as ahi goes belly up. First time I've seen this.
Easiest gaff I've ever done.
Back home for the official weigh in at 152 g/g.
Stoked to catch my last ahi this season with Wendell and Jared. Good job guys!
Neighbors kids came to see us cutting fish so put them to work and they even tried a piece of the heart.

Stay healthy!

Glad I got the hepatitis shots already. According to cdc.gov it last 25 years. Heard people standing in line for hours to get immunized.
Healthy salad for lunch.
Another round of massage, I mean physical therapy.

Ono day

Great pic by Cat the other day.
Quick run with Jon Kam today and got a pair of Onos on the gaji lure. Thanks Jon for all your help and spotting those high flyers.

Good blend of ono and ahi for today's pupu hour.

Convergence

Red Sea crew was anxious to get out for one last chance to catch Ahi before the season ends.
Ocean was rough and our sea legs would be put to the test.  James Oshiro was in the fetal position all day.
I knew where the fish were biting so headed for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. We reached the grounds found the birds and set out our gaji lures then BAM!
Got one in the boat! Reset our lines again and headed back to the spot as birds started to form and converge in front of us.  Lots of other boats all made a b-line for the birds but we were there first and the rigger pops then the center. Rigger pole flys out of the holder but James was there to grab the pole and line cuts but center still on.  We clear the lines and bring the fish in.
20 minutes later we got two in the boat and start heading in as winds and waves got bigger.
What an amazing view on the Eastside.  Chinamans Hat is a special place for those who live on this side of the island.
Mahalos to Cat, James, Al and two old Crows for their help and support for making it all happen today.    I've learned the importance of putting in your time, being persistent and patient is the key to making your dreams come true.  Life is short so do what you love and love what you do!
