I had a dream last night my boards miraculously showed up in indo. I was half asleep and not sure if it was true but with many prayers going out just believe. I came back to airport to meet team Japan. Great to see familiar faces after a crazy day yesterday.

Tune in

All afternoon been searching for my boards. Still haven't found it:( so I checked in my tune hotel and hope it shows up tomorrow. Small room probably 9x9 sqft. Good night...

Puffys

Ono dessert!

Swells Coming!

Summer swells on the way?  Did a surf check and see some waves coming soon!  Unfortunately not to Hawaii but to Indonesia.  This will be my floating palace for the next 10 days and I hope we score some good barrels!  It's been a while since I've gotten a sick barrel and hope to get one again here.  I will try and update my blog with some photos as much as possible.  Stay tuned!

Gotta run to the Gene Higa tournament today so everyone be safe in the water diving.  Conditions look rough and windy but it will be fun to see all the Hawaii divers put on their best effort.  Good luck!

Mechanics + Mentawai

The Red Sea Boat is almost pau and there are so many people to thank for all their hard work and help.  After the hull and trailer was made the next phase was motors and electronics and here is the team who tirelessly worked (left to right).  My Dad "Crow" has spent more hours thinking about the boat than me.  I think we have spent at least 1000 hours working on the boat thus far and without his help I probably would have to spend 1000 more.  Alika just joined the Bayside Marine team and has been very helpful to hand us anything we need.  Paul leads the team here at Bayside Marine and he took care of me on my first boat and took care of me again.  I kind of feel like a employee already with all the hours I've spent there this month.  Last, Jason was the mechanic who spent many hours hooking up the parts.  This guy knows his stuff and I learned so much by just watching him work.  Thank you guys for all your hard work!

Next stop on the map is Mentawais.  Couple years ago I filmed some Japanese pro surfers and we scored this right hand wave as good as it gets.  This years I will be heading back a couple times to film, surf, and travel so if I don't have any posts because of no internet connection at least you know why.

Diver Down

Another diver, Christopher Nee passed away from drowning in Kailua beach area this weekend.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.  KGMB reporter Jim Mendoza called me up to get my opinion and I gave them my 2 cents.   Click here for full story

East to West to Pack

Today we drove from the east to the west to visit Kris Tylers new store location.  Westside dive and tackle is located in the royal kunia area next to times.  Convenient and lots of parking!
Kris wasn't in so we met Brian Watanabe who hooked my guns up for my upcoming trip to Indo.  Since my last dive I needed a new shaft, reel line, bands, and got a tagline too.  Thanks brian for all your help!
Then I went home and started packing.  I got the essentials including the miso soup but at the moment exceeding my limit of 50 lbs.  You would think I would have got this packing thing down by now.

Hard day at work!

What a beautiful day in Hawaii.  Lights winds small waves means "Go Dive".  Boarded the Go-naminori boat with Kirby and James and we were off to catch dinner.

Our first few dives were action packed to say the least.  Kirby dropped on a 20 lb ulua and got a good head shot.  I dropped down to back him up and the fish was gone!  Huh?  How come?  I see his spear tip severed 5 inches below and the shaft totally snapped.  We did multiple drops but couldn't find it.  We head to another spot and find the mother load of uluas.  I tell kirby to take one entry while I cover the other.  We signal the ok sign then dive....I see couple dozen 30-40 lbrs but didn't want to shoot.  I wait, wait, and see a monster below come, at least 100 lbs.  I wait for the shot and bam!  It takes off, my  reel jams, so I loosen the drag.  It runs and spools my reel and I have to let go as it pulls me under.  Then the line snaps my gun starts sinking into the deep hole 60 ft down.  I dive to grab it in the nick of time and was all spent.

After lunch we headed inside to grab some table food and called it day after 74 dives.  What a day! Thanks Kirby and James for a fun day on the job.  I'm going to sleep good tonight.

Time to

Go to work:)

Bula Vinaka

Bula! Finally got a chance to download some images taken on our Fiji trip!  Here's Ken with the prized Dogtooth Tuna.  These fish are one of the most fun fish to hunt because they are so elusive and hard to land, especially if there are sharks.  Luckily this place did not have many sharks.

Nikolai also landed a nice Otaru which spooled her reel.  Got it all on film!

Brent and Ken worked well together and here Brent speared a nice kamanu with hopes of drawing in the pelagics.

Every night we were treated to fabulous meals and live entertainment from the locals.  John, Roberta, Bubba and the gang were just awesome!

Vinaka to all our Red Sea Group for another awesome adventure!  We look forward to many more trips to come with you all.
