Indo dreams

People ask me where is the best place to surf. I tell them it all depends on what you are looking for. I really enjoy the perfection and variety of waves found in Indonesia. I've travelled to various parts of Indo in search of the perfect wave and always have scored. One year we sailed the southern end of Indonesia and came across this exotic high end resort. The guests were surprised to see us and luckily the waves were small or else we probably stop and surf.
Other times we encounter small canoes with local fisherman trying to catch their daily meal. The weather is hot and humid with a unique aroma from the incense burned by the village. This is culture at its core! No such thing as McDonalds, Costco, or Home Depot in this neighborhood.

And the waves are perfect! From 2 ft to 10 ft. you can catch the best waves of your life! We got several groups going out on the ultimate boat trip to the Mentawais this year and a few spots left. One of our guests Damon Schmidt showing us how its done. I got my tickets booked and ready to get barreled in 2012.

Remember Japan

Today marks the one year anniversary of the tragic tsunami that hit Japan. I remember being in the water in Palau as our guides frantically screamed to get out of the water as their was a tsunami coming. We rushed back to the harbor and turned on the CNN news and stood in shock to see the devastation. One of my friends, Kirby Fukunaga was hit the hardest but on this day it changed his life. He has now been on 5 mission trips to Japan to help the victims and about to head on Mission 6 in April. One year later, the clean up continues and many untold stories still remain with many unanswered questions. People have resumed their daily life with radiation around them. Foods are contaminated in certain areas and it's not clear on the safety of travel to certain parts of Japan. Lets remember Japan and see how you can help. A few good men!

The next step in building a boat is to build a trailer. There are a few companies to choose from when building a trailer. Some choose spectrum trailers, e-z loaders, pacific trailer, and some even make their own from scratch. After doing my research I decided to go with ABtrailers. The material is sent in a few boxes so I just needed a few good men who could help me assemble.
My uncle Herman Takimoto (middle) enlisted his friends Tommy Sonomura (right) and Roy Matsumoto (left) along with my dad and they got the job done! It was amazing to see these men in action. Just give them a wrench, screw driver, and they knew what to do. Thanks guys for all your help!

Jim Patterson from Force Marine (left) and Alex Whitaker from ABtrailers (right) are two very important leaders in the boating industry. Cutting edge designs, quality workmanship, at a reasonable cost is what sets them above the rest. Me (middle) is just enjoying the ride! ha ha!

Kat McDowell Music

On the next episode of HSDTV we are featuring a very talented musician, KAT MCDOWELL who can jam! When I heard her songs, it was a perfect fit for the next Ama Diver show. Very soulful, rythymic beats, and the mix between Japanese and English brings it all together. You can find out more about Kat on her website www.katmusic.jp, youtube, or i-Tunes! Go out an support our local musicians! Thanks Kat and Masaki for all your support! Remember to catch our next show premiering tomorrow at 8:30 pm (HST) and re-airing through the month of March as we remember those lost at sea.

Red Sea Boat Trips!

I've been dreaming for awhile about the perfect boat. I've researched all types of boats and asked so many questions that I might be able to become a boat salesman by now. I've owned a boat before so I knew a little but needed to figure out exactly what would work for me. Looking at every boat that comes out on craigslist, newspaper, on-line boat sites has been quite educational. This past week my dream has started to become reality.
From design to emptying my pockets I got on a plane and the next step was to start building my dream boat.
Workmanship is key and like assembling a quality instrument having a team from "Force Marine" who take pride in their work is invaluable. Measure, cut, fiberglass, to make everything fit perfectly.

I'm looking forward to taking all my friends and family around on more Red Sea boat trips and of course catching LOTS of fish! This is a progress shot of the hull with a poor but happy customer. ha ha! Still got lots more work to do but its a start to a dream come true!
