Low tides

Took out the Tokoro 6'4" this morning since still had some solid ones!  Always helpful to have the right board for the right wave.  Go order your magic board today!

Super low tides in the morning hours making for some hollow waves.  Be careful out there!  Looks like the north swell will be dropping with some small town bumps for the rest of the week.  Light winds all week. Time to start packing for another Red Sea Ocean Adventure.

Dream Big!

Buoys were pumping so took out the bigger board for some double overhead waves this morning.  Couldn't believe only 3 of us out!  Felt like we were on a surf trip with no crowd and perfect waves!

Visualize your dream and dream BIG!  200 plus pounders…  Looking forward to this summer's action!

Angel Al

Had a big scare last night when Mama Crow went down hard.  Hit her head but God was watching out for her with his angels.  One was Angel Al who helped with the CT scan.  Good thing all went well, thank God!

Well when the fish are biting gotta make more ice!  Surf was fun today up north with new solid swell and perfect conditions.  Stoked on the Tokoro blade!

Morning Crew

Meet Kahai and Martin, part of the morning crew up north.  Kahai looks small but is 270 lbs of muscle and can throw sprays and shred anything.  Marteen is from Argentina and enjoys the simple life.  His schedule revolvesl around the swells.  If you need a landscaper, call Marteen. Always fun seeing these two in the line up.

Mahalo to Wade and the Totkoro crew for making me a new blade.  This 5'8" step up is going with me to Indo for sure! Can't wait to test it out and get barreled!  Weather looking nice and breezy for the first half of the week before we get a break in the trades so plan your week accordingly.  Have a great weekend!

Wowie!  Two in the boat!

Celebration time! Time to go in!

Ahi Fever 2018!

Strong wind, heavy rain, lighting this morning!  So loaded up the Red Sea boat with Cat and Al for another great day!

Such freedom and wide open space in the ocean.  Beats sitting in traffic on the H1 freeway any day!

Al sandwich is the bomb!  So good, thanks Al.

Always attentive and hard at work.  Found bird pile but no action so went for the blind strike.  Our faithful gaji lure makes contact and we are on!  30 minutes later we are celebrating.

Blessed with another Ahi for 2018.  Mahalo to Al, Cat, Crow, Earline for making it all happen!

Cops and Big Surf

Woke up early as usual and found 3 cops outside.  I wonder how come?

Surf up north is pumping with challenging conditions.

Eastside is always empty and secluded, just the way I like it.  Well another windy week ahead with dropping north swells.  Summer is coming and ahi season is already here!  Time to go fishing?

Big Stormy Surf

Checked the surf this morning and looked big and bumpy.  Maybe 8-10 ft at the pipe.

Instead I gave my new boat ladder a face lift.  Looks like a windy week ahead so have a great day!

Cheers Mick!

Was great to watch Mick Fanning in the final of the Rip Curl Bells event.  He is a legend and had a awesome career.  I only met him once but after going through many challenges he always kept a positive attitude.

Congrats Mick and all the surfers who make surfing so fun to watch!  Cheers Mick!

First Ahi 2018

Yes weather finally got rough so we can go fishing!  It's been over a month since we went out so needed to test out things.  Al took first watch looking for high flyers.

Red Sea Cat also tested out her new contact bird lenses.  She can see 3 miles and find the bird piles.

I was looking for anything that may melt our ice.  The bite has been slow so we had to work hard.  Until Al spotted a nice rubbish were we camped out for a while.

Got a mahi, then a shibi.  Lost a mahi and a shibi to a shark.  Then noticed a bird tangled up in our starboard pole line.  I slowed the boat while Al and Cat freed the bird as it flew away and winked at us...  Then as I sped the boat up and Al was about to put the line back on the outrigger,  BAM!

The reel starts screaming!  Could it be?  Yes! Over the rail comes the first Ahi of 2018!  Teamwork is key!  We know the routine and get the job done in 20 minutes.

Gill and gut, then a pic for the post.

And 2018 Ahi #1 is official.  Mahalo to our Red Sea Boat and Land Crew for all their help today!

Eat what you catch

14 year old Kai Kaneko eating his catch the other day.  Every diver remembers their first fish speared and proud of this young man who caught a couple nice fish and even ate his catch.

Wade sent me a pic of this new step up board he made for me.  5'81/2 round tail will be added to my quiver for this summer and next winter.  Mahalo Tokoro Surfboards for providing such high quality boards.

Couple reef fish for dinner.  3 Prong action with Travis.

Only on the eastside you can see nice horses and mountains.  Not in town.

Happy Easter!

Boys wanted to look for the golden egg today so made it down to the Masutani Pier and loaded up for a day of fun in the sun.  Water was flat and no wind provided for epic day.

Kai speared his first two fish, Maika got his personal best Tako and Brandon got a nice palani and takes for his family.  Great times thanks to Travis and Noe for allowing them to find these priceless golden eggs! These eggs will someday grow up to provide food for their families and friends...
