Shark Prevention

Sprayed another board with the shark deterrent zebra pattern, then took it out for a late afternoon surf session.  Worked good with no bites!  Chee hoo!  Maybe can carry a knife too?  "Prevention is better than cure".

Hungry Sharks?

Another 12 foot tiger shark sighting the other day so took out my spray paint to provide some camouflage for my surfboard.  May the odds always be in your favor!

On my mind

Got back home safely and heard from my friends of several shark attacks on the east side.   One was 16 inch wide bite from a tiger shark.  Lots of big sharks out where we surf so be careful.

Came home and had fish on my mind.  Hope to find a aku or two soon for some poke.  Miss my sashimi.

Ceviche Time!

Another unridden wave goes by in the Mentawais.  If this was Hawaii there would be 100 guys out here!  Lucky we only had our crew.

Big Al Ah Nee got this nice Uhu and Chef Jim made ceviche for our pupu hour.  Thanks guys the buggah was ono!

Hts on Fire!

One of my favorite waves has to be Ht's or Lances Right.  So perfect, hollow and fun!  When the conditions are right its on fire!  With only 3 guys out I had to paddle out and try and get a wave! I vividly remember catching this wave and pulling in, riding over the foam ball and getting the exit.  Mahalo Anton for the photo.  The sequence was amazing!

Herbie the Hawaiian Superman!

Meet Kalapana legend, Herbie Rivera!  This 59 year old is made of muscle and can clear the lineup anyday!  It was a pleasure sharing waves with him and so funny to hang around.

He got some nice waves and probably put more hours in the water than most of the group.  Here he is flying like superman!

The peanut gallery was always cheering on the hawaiians in the lineup!  Bintangs going down after morning session!

Who Wants it?

Pulling up to a perfect left with only your friends out is what it's all about!  There are so many types of waves in Indonesia and good swells all year round.  I think our surfers got their best waves all summer and with conditions like this everyone was very happy.  Who want's it?  Your turn! You will never know until you go! Pic by Anton

Mentawai's 2018

Off the grid for past 10 days living off a boat.  Surf outlook looked promising in Indonesia so our group of 9 surfers made the journey to the Mentawais.  Surfline forecast called for 2 solid swells so we were hoping for the best!  One day and half of travel and we were in zone with overhead waves to start the trip.

Most of the group was first timers so it would be a journey they would never forget!  Stay tuned for all the action!

Ryan's first ono!

Had a fun labor day weekend with some friends.  Surf was ok but bit too crowded for me so I got my waves and headed in early.  My friend Ryan Kagami needed a crew so I joined him for a afternoon session.  It would be his last time fishing for a while as he and his wife Jaime are expecting a baby in a few weeks. We found a huge rubbish bigger than a FAD and started hooking up to some mahis and ono.

This was Ryan's first ono ever after losing 7 in the past.  He was stoked to finally get his monkey of his back.  Glad to be able to share the joy of fishing with friends.  Congrats Ryan!

Labor day pack!

Hope everyone is having a great labor day weekend!  Got a few waves with uncrowded conditions but had to wait for the right time and location.  Then started our pile for our pupu hour coming up soon.  All the necessary ingredients for making some awesome grinds.

Then packed up my camera, dive and surf gear for our next Red Sea Ocean Adventure.   Looking forward to making new friends, catching some fish and getting barreled.
