Seiji sushi

While we were in Kona one the top places we ate at was Seiji sushi.
They a good menu selection and I ate a variety of sushi. It's a small hole in the wall place and very friendly atmosphere.
This was the Seiji special which disappeared in 2 minutes. If you're ever in Kona try Seiji sushi.

Kona Sunset day

Today's agenda was to sightsee and film. We all headed to hualalai resort and checked out their fish pond. Lots of mullet, manini and awa for kids to see.

Then we did some filming on location with Merlinda and Kimi.

Its great to see these two dive partners in action.  Both Kimi and Merlinda are a great team. #chicks rule?
Ended the day with a spectacular sunset and thankful for another beautiful day. Mahalo to all our divers, friends and families who were so supportive.

South Point Dive

The winds picked up and we decided to dive south point and look for onos today. Kimi Apiki and Merlinda Garma flew in super excited to try and land their first blue water fish. Their guides would be Hanalei Adric and Calvin Lai.

We swam and swam but were unable to find the onos, but Kimi and Calvin were able to find some big he'e (octopus). Kimi also speared two malolo (flying fish) which was unheard of.

I seen this kayak fisherman, mark quizon hooked up so I swam over to film him. His pole bent over and the fight was on. Nice shibi!

After the dive we had a BBQ and big party.

Thank you to the Lai ohana for their hospitality and awesome dinner.

Kona catch kgmb

Another fun day on the Kona coast with Wendell, puna, and Ernie. Captain Nate is cool and keeping us entertained.

You must be careful when you nap on the boat. Here Ernie took a power nap and had some bait planted on him.
Puna speared a nice kamanu and it was filleted and into the freezer.
I got to learn how to bottom fish with handline and got this nice shibi that made my day complete.
Dinner at quinns and ready for some sleep. Oh don't forget to watch the news at 10 pm on kgmb.

Dream Day!

These past few days have been a dream. Everyday we walk past this huge marlin on the way out of our hotel and stare at it and wonder what if...
Then we ride out of honakahao harbor and stare at all these dream boats. But today was the day! The day a dream came true for one of our Hawaii skin divers.
The day was slow and were going to call it quits but the last call was made and the dream fish appeared! Everything happened so fast but were blessed today from above with a fish of a lifetime captured all on film.  Stay tuned for an excited episode of Hawaii skin diver tv.
The prize, the gift, the blessing that just made history to one of the most humble man on earth, Wendell Ko.  We are so proud and honored to have been here to witness this special day.
We came in early and headed out to Teshimas restaurant for a fabulous dinner to celebrate the day we will never forget.
This is teshisoku plate no. 3.  So good!
We all slept so good! Here Ernie catching some zzzz.

Monster Fish Speared

OMG! Monster fish jus taken! Stay tuned for details...

Kona day one

Arrived 530 am Kona international airport and our taxi was waiting for us. Loaded up the truck and headed straight to the gas station to get air.

Inflated our dive floats and we were all set to go!
10 minutes later we were on the boat and unpacked on a 28 ft radon.
A couple hours later we had fish on the boat! Mahi Mahis!
And an Ono to top it off.  Great day on the water. Tomorrow up at 5 am and ready for round 2.

Surf & Pack

Good aloha Monday! Small waves all over but if you know where to look you could find a few chest/shoulder high waves. Only 12 guys in the line up so went for a quick one.  Caught my share and came in before the afternoon crowd.
Then came home to pack for our next trip. No that's not golf clubs but my dive gear. Seems like golfers don't get charged extra luggage fees but surfers do.  Looking forward to filming and diving with my good friends Puna, Wendell and Ernie the next few days!  Stay tuned and hope we get lucky!

Surf with the Pros

Today decided to surf out lanis. Pulled up and see josh moniz walking up the beach with a broken board. Brand new board and first wave.  Bummers!  Josh is such a cool kid and he is making Hawaii proud by surfing so good!  He even calls me uncle:) Let him borrow my phone he calls his brother to bring another board because the waves are firing!

6-8 ft perfect lanis reeling down the line. Got my share of waves and after work crowd came out so I went in. Also saw Gabriel Medina, Gudaskas bros, Kaito Kino and some friends out ripping it up.  Pretty cool surfing with the pros instead of watching them on TV. Great day of surfing on the north shore.

Big Mu

Good Aloha Tuesday everyone! Light north winds blowing and little bump in town which came up yesterday for those who knew about the swell.  Last trip to Niihau I had an hour to poke a few fish and got lucky with this mu.  Here on Oahu it helps to have a 3 minute bottom time but there a minute half is good enough.  They swim like the "Matrix" and you must bring out your hunting skills when targeting this fish. They are really good to eat because their diet is mainly shellfish.  One of the divers on the trip actually had his gopro camera rolling when I came up so thanks Arnel for getting the shot!

Tuna netting

This is probably one of the reasons of the lack of tuna in Mexico this year.  These boats have helicopters who spot the fish and give coordinates to the mother ship who lay huge nets to capture the tuna. Fish netting is bad news all over the world even here in Hawaii.
I hope their government can prohibit this type of fishing to allow more opportunities for game fisherman who spend money to catch one or two nice tunas a year.

Adios Amigos!

Another early wake up start at 4:00 am, on the boat at 5:00 am and in the water at 7:30 am looking for tuna. Unfortunately we weren't lucky today but still a great day on the water. Back in by noon, pack up and shuttle at 1:00 pm for our flight back home.  Adios amigos!

Early start day

This morning we woke up 3 am for a early start. This photo was taken at 4 am of our room. Guess which bed i sleep? If you guessed the right you're wrong. Al ah nee is very neat guy. I felt like oscar in the odd couple. We ate breakfast and made our down to the beach for our dive. Weather was perfect and we were so happy the storm left.
We looked high an low for tuna but this was the best I could do today.
Kekoa also landed a monster rainbow runner which provided our whole boat dinner.
We made it in before sunset and it was another great day in Mexico!  Tomorrow we wake up at 4 am and going for a half day dive then hop on a plane for our ride home to Hawaii.
