Living a legacy

I've been blessed with a wonderful and supportive family and whenever a family member passes on its very sad. This year we said goodbye to my uncle Haru and Aunty Liz who loved a lived for each other. They will always be in our hearts.
Their grandsons, Jeffrey and Alan will carryon their legacy and make their grandparents proud as they turn into fine young men.
It has been rough for some of us this year whether we lost loved ones or have troubles in life but as we end 2014 let us remind each other of...
The wise words shared from two old crows, "the road to a friends house is never to far".

Eastside surf

Another fun day of surf! Far paddle but surfing with 2 other guys in the lineup with hollow waves is my kind of surfing.
Today's backdrop was the koolau mountains. Southwest winds should peak tonight then switch north for tomorrow. Pick your spots wisely.

New Years Mochi

Today's plan was to make our traditional Mochi. 50 pounds of rice pounded to perfection. Back in the day we did this all by hand, today we use the machine. Work smarter not harder.
My nephews are learning our tradition so when we are old we can watch them make our Mochi.

Surfers Path

Part of surf exploration is surfing all kinds of waves. Today was north swell and north winds so there is one secret spot I like to go on days like today.
Took out my 5'6 and saw a handful of guys out, come to find out its my Eastside friends Wade Tokoro, Rick Shimabukuro, Troy Yamanaka and Reo Inaba out.  Fun steep drops, barrels and long walls for the boys.

Eastside buoy

Woke up early and headed back to my favorite wave and surf was firing overhead, offshore, barreling and 2 guys out. The breaks are super far so hard to tell how good it is without binoculars. I even saw the "LL" buoy just outside the line up.
No concrete buildings just beautiful mountain views for your backdrop. Well time for my second breakfast before I get things going.

Christmas 2014

Well christmas is here! The weather is cold and everything is in place.
Woke up early to check my stomping grounds to look at the waves but did not leap. Little morning sickness overhead waves so decided to get ready for lunch and work on my bait well instead.
Fresh fish we caught the other day.
King crab legs and so much more...I hope each of you have a very merry Christmas and thank you for all your love and support.  From our Red Sea ohana to yours, Mele Kalikimaka and haoli'makahikihou!

Christmas eve surf and shop

Christmas eve is here! So fast! Got to go test out the sf3 Tokoro at Dh and works well. Can ride this in waist high to 2x overhead waves. Hmm Christmas present?
Prob best spot today.
I was good so my last minute shopping was for me:) gonna make a bait well so I can learn to catch fish using fresh bait. It's winter and I'm thinking summer, ahi fever baby!

Tokoro Surfboards

Got to visit my good friend Wade Tokoro at his shop on the Eastside. So proud of him to see all the top wct surfers riding his boards. He showed me some new space age foam, his team riders boards like Mick Fannings board here and let me test out one of his magic boards so can't wait to go surf these wintery waves.  We had one of our best surf sessions on the east side the other week and stoked to see him continue to rip and represent the Eastside boardriders.
Beautiful cool north winds making it so nice and comfortable sleeping weather. One more day before Christmas, the roads are crazy so drive safe everyone!

"Win some and lose some"

Rainy days like today gotta get indoors and edit.  Not very often you get to see a fish pole get "knocked down" or see the actual strike but since I forgot to turn off the camera we got the money shot!  Hope you enjoy the video.

Good fishing day!

Winds backed off a little and surf dropped so time to get fish for the holidays. Keith Yamane and Cat joined me for todays Red Sea Ocean Adventure.
We set out the riggers and put out the lines and waited. And waited, then found the birds and bam!
We got fish in the cooler. Got a big strike but it came off at the boat:(
It was a great day of fishing!  Thanks Keith, Cat, Mom and Dad for all your help today.  Just in time for Christmas.

Taiwan Reunion

Seems like it was only yesterday our group of travelers were in Taiwan.
Last night we had our reunion dinner at Mandalay restaurant.
This dungeonous crab went fast. One of many dishes ordered by Henry Ou.
Thanks everyone for a great trip! Look forward to more travels again.

South shore regulars

South swell peaked today with a few overhead sets. A little breezy but still fun for the regulars. Good to get barreled and see my friends Alvin, Matt, Nick, Lena, Greg and Marteen hanging out at their regular spot. Cheers!

Aloha Friday

Welcome to paradise! Aloha Friday with blue skies and more swells up north.
Headed up to Mokes with just my friend Kuna out and one other guy in the line up.

Epic Eastside!

Winds were forecasted to pick up at noon today so woke up early and went dawn patrol to my favorite side of the island again.  Eastside!
Pulled up and waves were firing 2.5 x overhead and barreling!  Saw my friends Wade Tokoro, Rick Shimabukuro, Ed Kupahu, Marteen, even Dave Wassel out getting shacked. Heavy wipeouts and barrels seen with good friends in the lineup are awesome.

Eastside boardriders

This morning waves were pumping and super crowded at pipe. Watched a few heats and waxed up to check my spots.
Drove up to check the Eastside since swell had enough size. Probably one of my favorite views is chinamans hat.
Then I see my eastside friends at one of our secret spots. I've know Timmy Rezentes and Kevin Oshiro for a long time and when we see each other it like yesterday we were in high school. Long overhead waves with a handful of guys out. Score!
No skyscrapers just beautiful green mountain views.

Fishing Day

Winds are light and waves dropped a little so tried our luck fishing. Headed out at sunrise and saw the green flash.
Al Ah Nee was anxious to catch something and made his Ono sandwiches. Thanks Al.
Kekoa Mau also kept a watchful eye out for birds but not much action today.
View of the office is spectacular. This is the koolau mountain range.
We did manage to put a few fish on the table for a couple nights.

Santa Surfing?

Wow Dec. is here! Christmas lights in full swing.
Even saw Santa surfing!
North shore finally woke up with solid swell so bust out the big boards.  See you out there!
