The Main Event!

The fight of the century is just a few days away.  Mayweather vs Pacquiao?  I'm not a boxing fan but been watching the previews and interviews this week regarding this upcoming fight.  Its like Rocky Balboa going up against Apollo Creed and looks to be a good one!  I may just have to watch the fight on Saturday if the surf is junk.

Waxing boards

Most surfers wax the top of their boards. Some surfers even wax their feet. I often put wax on the bottom of my boards as well. Any good car wax will keep the dirt off and provide you maximum speed when needed. If not at least it will keep your board looking good.

Oakley Lowers Pro is On

Josh Moniz ripping but unfortunately loss his heat in the trials. Small clean waves here at lower trestles. Lots of wind here in Hawaii and not much surf so good time to plan some trips or gear up for ahi season.

OMG!

Today we filmed with Merlinda Garma at a nice river on the Eastside.  Finding the right backdrop is always challenging and having to deal with the elements (ie: clouds, cars, planes and people) is even more difficult.
Merlinda featuring a new jams world dress.  Buy local, buy Jams World.
OMG! Oh Merlinda Garma taking a selfie for her fans!

Blind Strike

Winds turned south today so plan was to find some dinner for this week. South winds are tricky so it's important to know when it's time to go in. Lots of boats got blasted if they stayed out to long.
My crew today was Cat and James and we headed out to look for birds but not much luck.
I bought a bean bag for my boat and James put it to good use. In fact he passed out and was snoring instead of helping us look for birds or rubbish.
Then we got the bite and reel started to scream and he was forced to wake up. Cleared the lines and got this nice spearfish "hebi" in the boat.
Also picked up a couple 25 lb Mahis on my Gaji lures in the blind again.
Headed in early, beat the crowd and strong winds with lots of daylight to clean fish. Another lucky day!

Love your life

South shore still had some head high surf! Long period swells last long. I love it!
Where we shower during the summer.
Evening bento at the beach after swim lessons with my nephews.
Boys appreciating the day at the beach.
They learned about having a strong mind, healthy body and fun spirit. Love what you do in life.
Another perfect day in Hawaii.

Bucketfish

My friend Wendell Ko has the fever and wanted to eat fish so went to help him being crew.  We always exchange ideas and ways to improve our fishing skills.
Water was not bad, took a couple big knockdowns and saw some bird piles.
Put some akus in the bucket perfect for tonight's dinner.

Wind Shift

Another day of fun south surf. Long lefts at bowls. Winds shifted south east by noon and everyone came in so I went out.
Lots of parking, 4 other guys out, score!
Surf should start dropping soon so get your waves now! Be safe out there everyone.

Only a surfer knows the feeling

Waves came up a little in town so headed out to grab a few waves. Little bumpy and inconsistent but better than nothing.
Stopped by POP fishing to stock up on some secret skirts. So much to choose from. I am so excited for ahi season this year and hoping for another big ahi!
Headed home to see my nephews and their new board. I have been looking for a good used nsp board for almost 8 months and finally found one for them.  These are really hard to find and a new one costs around $700 or more.
They immediately started waxing the board from nose to tail smelling the wax as they kept going saying how good it smells. I remember how excited I was getting a board putting my feet on it, waxing it, putting stickers and taking it to bed...and that was 3 months ago? Ha ha! Hopefully these guys will get the satisfaction of truly experiencing the phrase, "Only a surfer knows the feeling"!

Good waves and friends

South swell arrived and head high sets with windy conditions. Saw 30 guys out at bowls so opted to surf with 3 others with some fun barrels.
More surf coming so wax up and get tubed.  Good to see Guy, Alvin and Nick out in the lineup.
Also great to see my good friend Erick Itoman today. Great catching up and look forward to seeing your family soon!

Hatch in the House

Team Hatch, Mike Hatcher and Shane Cabiles came over to work on a upcoming HSD show. These guys were having such a good time doing voice overs and cracking each other up. They have been dive partners for past 20 years and always watch each other's back. Thanks guys for a fun day!

Ocean Treasures

The 2015 fishing season started off great with glass ball find. After hours of cleaning and polishing it's now found a place to display in our pad.  Now when I look into the ball I can picture us catching tuna.

Got crabs?

Quarter finals on now as Hawaii's John John Florence defeated local wildcard Jay Davies. It was a great heat! Northshore drops slowly as a new south swell will start next week.
Kekoa dropped off a red crab from California so gonna eat it tonight. Thanks Kekoa!

Never quit fishing

Last night my friend Kirby wanted to go fishing? "What I thought you quit?", I said. Yeah but he heard fish was biting.  Ok let's go fishing!
Also Kekoa Mau came on board and worked hard today. Waters were rough and waves were coming over the boat. He must have got drenched six times today. Thats not gel on his hair.  In fact it was so rough our cooler filled with ice flipped over and we had to scoop it up and try to salvage what ice we could.
We hooked up to some shibis, kawakawas and nice onos. The fish just kept biting...
By noon our cooler was full and we were ready to come home!
We were lucky to get all the game fish today (some call it the sweep) and think Kirby may have a new hobby to add to his busy life.   Hopefully this will motivate him to keep on fishing.
Came home to clean fish and the slabs were perfect!
Crows Restaurant opened for happy hour and there was the making of another $100 dinner! Thanks for another awesome day of fishing guys!

Spring Surf

Buoys jumped up so headed up to the Northshore to grab a few waves. Surprised to see not many cars and waxed up my 6'0.  Fun 3-5ft surf building with some wash thrus. Good to see Wade, Rick, Martin in the lineup today.
Pipe was funky with to much sand so made a good call.
Love driving home on the east side, so peaceful and green! No cranes, no buildings, no traffic.
