The Barge

The weather was looking good for a day of fishing so called up the boys Kekoa Mau and James Oshiro  for an early start.  We arrived at the buoy and birds were working so dropped my Gaji lures in and like magic fish started biting the hook.  One aku, one kawa, one shibi after the other as Kekoa and James worked hard.  The bite slowed down around 9 am so decided to venture further out for bigger game as Kekoa took a power nap to refresh his body.
Then "eagle eye" James says rubbish at 10 o'clock!  Today was James first day back on the water since his injury so we knew it was a special day.  It was a huge floating barge with barnacles all over it.  This is a fisherman's dream!  Last time we found a treasure glass ball and this time a barge?  I tell Kekoa to wake up cause we are going get some action soon! We make a pass and double strike, reels scream and we land a mahi and lose one on our handline.  We go around around again and no bites, we see the mahis swimming but they are not hungry.  But we are hungry so I suit up and if the fish is not going to bite we are going in after them!
We reel in the lines, and luckily I brought my gear so I jump in to inspect the situation.  Kekoa borrows my mask with no snorkel and he jumps in with my back up gun and floater chumming.  We see Mahis and Onos under the barge and one by one start to pick them off.  We start sacrificing chumming our akus caught for spearing Mahis.
We load up the best we could and head back in as the weather starts to turn.

What a day!  Lots of action, good friends, got lots of fish!

I let Travis and Al know pupu hour is at 6 pm so they come over and help us clean fish.   I am thankful to have such awesome friends and family who always give 110% and go the extra mile.  Thanks guys!

Mama crow did a fantastic job preparing our catch for dinner and Nakamoto Okazuya has officially received a 5-star rating on Yelp!

We celebrated Travis Birthday with a fabulous healthy fruit cake Al made while getting stuck in traffic and shopping at whole foods.  This was one of those top 10 days we will never forget!
