First Ahi 2018

Yes weather finally got rough so we can go fishing!  It's been over a month since we went out so needed to test out things.  Al took first watch looking for high flyers.

Red Sea Cat also tested out her new contact bird lenses.  She can see 3 miles and find the bird piles.

I was looking for anything that may melt our ice.  The bite has been slow so we had to work hard.  Until Al spotted a nice rubbish were we camped out for a while.

Got a mahi, then a shibi.  Lost a mahi and a shibi to a shark.  Then noticed a bird tangled up in our starboard pole line.  I slowed the boat while Al and Cat freed the bird as it flew away and winked at us...  Then as I sped the boat up and Al was about to put the line back on the outrigger,  BAM!

The reel starts screaming!  Could it be?  Yes! Over the rail comes the first Ahi of 2018!  Teamwork is key!  We know the routine and get the job done in 20 minutes.

Gill and gut, then a pic for the post.

And 2018 Ahi #1 is official.  Mahalo to our Red Sea Boat and Land Crew for all their help today!
