Hurricane Douglas looking like its falling apart and it shears north of Oahu. Hopefully Kauai is spared also. We were prepared and got our essentials all taped down.

Hurricane Douglas
The calm before the storm. Conditions were nice today so had to take advantage of the sun to film with Merlinda Garma. Been monitoring this Hurricane Douglas over a week now and knew today was our only chance to film.
Tomorrow will be a different story as Hurricane approaches our islands. Rain, wind and big east swell on the way so take some to secure your homes and be prepared for a level 1 or tropical storm to create some damage to our islands. Forecasters saying it will veer north but probably go closest to Kauai's Na Pali Coast. Hope you all stay safe and secure.

Waterman in the making
Been busy editing another HSDTV episode, this time working with Keaka Ching and Chris Paglinawan. Both of them have regular day jobs but they love the ocean. Every chance they have you can find these two hammahs doing their thing. They have been so supportive and we are looking forward to the next show premiering Aug. 4th at 7:30 pm.
The calm before the storm. Tropical storm Douglas should be approaching the state on Sunday and effects probably be on Monday here on Oahu.
My nephew Maika is always game to dive but this time it was to fish. We were proud to see him growing up into the man of the sea. Everyone goes through growing pains and that's what it takes to become a true waterman. Sometimes life doesn't' throw you diamonds and apples but charcoal and bananas…So putting in your time and paying your dues is all apart of the process. Maika, keep your mind strong and focused on your dream! You will succeed!

Ahi Action
Got a chance to run my red stick and winds were up so why not? Go fishing! We got to the grounds and had a knock down on the rigger. It was a good one and got it to the boat in 20 minutes after a hard fight.
Another fun day of fishing for the Red Sea Crew. Mahalo to everyone for helping as usual. Until next time!

Double Rainbow
Where there is no rain, there are no rainbows! We are lucky to live Hawaii where we see these so often. Swells been dropping lately but we were lucky to find a few diamonds in the ruff. Not much in the forecast so great time to get things done!

Red Stick
You heard of a green stick used for fishing? Well I made a red stick! Its 20 ft. long and made from a 10 ft ulna pole and 10 ft pvc pipe reinforced. This will allow my team to have more layout options depending on the condition of the sea. Hope to get some fish on it soon. Will see how it performs.
Kai's been getting the surf bug! Went out for a evening session the other day and he got some nice ones.

Na Pali Ohana
It was nice to get away on Kauai and explore the Na Pali coast. Lotsa nice mountains, caves and waterfalls. Heres the crew of the the blue Ocean Adventures.
This beach is probably one of the most popular views where many movies were filmed like King Kong.
Thank you to to Parade Magazine for selecting the frontline story to represent Hawaii in their latest magazine. We are honored to represent the 808.
Also to the Share care team and Dr. Oz for their article and interview. In the next week, the story will be going around Japan. We appreciate all the media attention this story received but without our team of fisherman, Monarch Seafoods, Spectrum OC16, Hawaii News Now - Stephanie Lum, all the front line workers and our family none of this would have happened. We are blessed to share some Aloha with our Ohana.

On board with Al
Small surf so why not? Loaded up the Red Sea boat with Big Al Ah Nee and Cat and off we went. Seas were perfect and our magical Gaji lure MVP did its thing!
Al's first ahi of 2020 so stoked to share the moment with him. We took turns cranking, hand lining before putting him to sleep. Al is on it, no matter if he sleeps or not. Now thats commitment!
Mahalos to the Red Sea Crew on the boat at the ramp and in the kitchen for all their love and support!

Summertime fish
Summer fishing has been fun! We went out and found some mahis this day. Brent spotted a large log and we got lucky!
Brent got his monkey off his back! Landing this nice ahi on board the Red Sea boat.
Also got invited to do a radio interview with Studio Rim regarding the front line episode. It will air over the radio in Hokkaido June 28 and Tokyo July 4th. Mahalo to Reiko and Hiroko for having us over. Arigato! Follow Studio Rim on Facebook for more info.

Breaking News
Surf on the south shore finally subsided but everyone got a few to remember. Mahalo Ron Kimura for the pic.
One day was nice size with not many surfers out.
Surprised to see Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest picking up the frontline HSDTV story.
Also had to put on my Jamsworld and do another interview for a popular show who wanted to share. We are thankful for Stephanie Lum breaking the news on HNN, CNN, FOX, CBS, MSN, etc for the publicity but know if not for our five fisherman and their crew along with Monarch Seafoods none of this would be possible. Mahalo everyone for their support! More to come!
Here’s the link to that Hawaii Skin Diver TV frontline episode for you to watch and share:

Fishing for Front line
We decided to do another strike mission with 5 local captains and their crew to help out our front line workers. These guys are hilarious!
Teamed up with local fish distributor Monarch Seafoods to help provide poke bowls to our hospital workers.
Front line workers were so happy! We especially want to thank Dr. Erick Itoman for helping organize this effort.
We are grateful to help out doing what we love.
Straub front line workers holding it down!
Check out Hawaii News Now for quick story. Mahalo Stephanie Lum for sharing the story.

Good Fortune!
This weeks Master Fu fortune cookie said...
Owen never rode the Red Sea boat before so he was anxious to get on board. It was so comfortable he passed out. Saw some birds so motored over and as multiple boats started following us out we got the bite! Starboard corner went off screaming...
Fish in the boat is always good day!
More rewarding is to see the expression of a friend catching his first ahi.
Mahalo's to the Red Sea crew for their help and Owen Adams Jr. for joining us today. We are always thankful to be able to provide fresh fish for others to enjoy!

Happy Mothers Day!
Kai finished his surf art. Hanafuda theme looks good. Great job Kai!
Got to test our motors out and our social distancing skills too. Kinda hard to stay 6 ft apart on my boat.
Tides been super low in the morning and bigh in the evening.
Finally Happy Mothers Day! We are so lucky to have a great Mom who goes above and beyond our expectations everyday!

Masked Diver
Winds finally back up but took advantage of the last calm night to go look for some bottom fish. Now there is a new ruling regarding boating so unless you have your commercial license you are limited to 2 person per boat. Its going to be interesting landing the big ones with 2 persons and trying to maintain 6 ft apart while gaffing the fish.
We were able to fill up this huge bin of akule. Non stop action! All of this fish went to a worthy cause.
Even found the bonus steamer fish!
Been keeping busy editing the next HSDTV show! Guess who will be featured next month's show? These masked divers are super fun to film.
