Happy 103 Birthday!

My nephew Maika learning to clean fish now.  Good job!  You can catch, clean now learn to cook and you are set and will never go hungry.

We were invited to attend our uncles Joes 103rd birthday party this weekend.  All of his family was there to celebrate this great day.

Such a great role model for many.  Can't wait to go fishing again with you!

Red Fish Wanted!

New years tradition is to have red fish so that was our plan for the day!  Called up Aqua man (puna apio) but he put on his green latern colors and off we went.  Did a few deep drops and got lucky!

Opakapakas, Gindais, Ehus, and Kanpachi?

Came home and found this nice Kadomatsu made by Dana Sato and his angels...

Steamed up one of the Pakas for our family dinner and it was so good!  Everyone was happy!

No Ahí Banana!

Last try out for the Grade A ahi for christmas!  Owen Adams Sr. was game.

My friend Dana Sato also decided to go.  He said he was the ahi banana and nobody catches when he goes fishing with him.  We set out our gaji lures and looked for birds but none was found.  Since our Gaji lures is made by Allan Sato and Dana's last name is Sato it would only be fitting for us to hook up.  And in the blind we did!  Screamer and we took turns on the line and got it up to leader in 30 minutes.

Dana's curse was lifted and now he is a free man!  He got the feevah!  Took some pics and then Owen went M.O.B. man overboard (thats a different story)

Mahalos to these men for making another great day.

Austyn and Kinsey came over to eat the fish and see that their dad really did catch the big one!

Thanks for our Red Sea land and sea crew for a great day!  Everyone is having a great Christmas dinner!

We had a nice blessing come by and bite our gaji lures!  Pleasant surprise to find one…so set out all the big lures and bam!

Got to check out Kailua Symphonic Band last night at their winter concert.  Great performances..

Almost done with our Red Sea Dry Box!  A few more add ons and will be ready to test it out!  Today's surf came up fast this morning up north and pretty challenging conditions for the pipe trials.  More big swells coming as winds start to back off..

Under Construction

Today surf looked junky so took out the chop saw and went to town to buy materials to start our Red Sea dry box.

Planning to make a medium size fish box so hopefully it comes out ok so we can start making more dry aku.  Main thing is not to use any kind of treated wood so I went for a cedar wood.  I think you could use pine also.  Stay tuned!

Raw & Dry?

Sliced up some sashimi Otaru for the family dinner.  So good!  

Was looking into making a fish dry box and found this one online.  Will see how my next project goes…Lotsa wind and big waves for this week so be careful out there!

Surf, Shape & Sashimi!

Lotsa  big surf up north!  Pipeline going off along with many other spots!  Got to surf with Mick Fanning today, was cool to see him rip. Who will win this years World title?

Quick run to the market to see what was on special?  Got a few big boys! Lotsa sashimi for this windy week!

Shark deterrent?

How's this snake pattern?  Wonder if it deters sharks?  May have to put it on my next board?  Past days I got to sample a epoxy board Kelly Slater rides and works great!  First time riding a epoxy board and it has lots of floatation and good speed.  You may want to try one too!

Big surf coming!

North shore dawn patrol with rising swell.  Saw this 9 year old Talen out checking the waves and get barreled.  This young grom is home schooled and wants to be a pro surfer one day!  Got a few fun ones and headed back to the barn.  Big waves coming tomorrow so be safe out there.  Have a great day!

Eat your catch!

Went for a dive with Keith and Maika.  Got lucky with a few tako but Maika got to spear his first fish.  Couple nice maninis.

He cleaned it and prepped it for the fryer.

Learning how to cook his own fish is important.

Then ate it!  Eat what you catch!  Congrats Maika on the nice catch.

Scooby-doo!

Great week of waves and more to come.  Had to sneak out for our food for the week.  Light winds and small surf so boarded the Red Sea boat and headed out.
