Cardio workout

Quick 30 minute expression session to get the cardio workout. Not much surf this week but next week looking better. Happy Aloha Friday and have a nice weekend!

Bait and be prepared

This year I really want to try catching fish with bait. So I made a bait well with a cooler and pump, tested it out now just gotta catch bait.

Sometimes you gotta go number 2. And if nature calls on the high seas we are prepared.

Sean Masaki came over to do some voice overs for an upcoming Tonga HSDTV episode. Lotsa action!

Season Has Started

Not many boats out on the east side due to these gusty winds. I don't like crowds so I kind of like it.

But the best part is eating Al's sandwich. Check out the cross section of this fabulous lunch. Thanks Al!

Everyone is getting geared up to fish. Even saw Nate Abe from Kona here shopping. I'm looking forward to a fun Ahi season and getting barreled.

A Dads Story

Hope you had a nice weekend!  Small surf this weekend and today with minor bumps in the forecast and more winds, you know what that means?  Time to look for this weeks dinner!

World champion spearfisherman dies

The diving community is in shock as news about Joseba kerejeta death yesterday. It appears he blacked out while diving off a wreck in Florida. With a four minute bottom time he had nobody spotting him. If this can happen to the best free divers how much more do we need to dive with a partner you can trust?

A different view

3-5 ft Morning session up north with Eastside boys. One of these days I'll take a picture of the waves...not? I rather surf! This is the Tokoro bus view today. Pick a board. Got to see big wave charger Buzzy Kerbox in the line up today also. Happy Aloha Friday!

Ahi Feevah Tshirts

Morning surf up north with solid 5ft sets and legend Michael Ho and Coco Ho in the line up.

Then headed south to see small windy waves.

Grabbed some supplements for my sashimi at Costco.

And picked up our new Red Sea "Ahi Feevah" T-shirts.  Get yours while supplies last and season starts up.

Dangers of fishing

Downloaded some video of the hebi we caught. The fish was too big for my cooler so had to fly in the boat. The bill and hook got kinda close to me but luckily we got it under control.

Testing out my old potogee vacuum sealer on my fish. Should be good for this week. Ha ha!

Fish Call

Woke up early to try and find dinner for this week. Called up the crew and they were down to go fish.

Out in the line up before sunrise usually makes for a good day.

But the fish slept in today. So James aka fish caller started his waving of the hand technique while looking for high flyers.

Fish robber Al was ready even with a few hours of sleep last night.  He really wants to test his bang stick on a big one!

Then we found the Dolphins and birds. We worked it but found no love.

James gave the fish another big wave then Bam!

Fishies flew in the box and we headed in after lunch.

Good day, good friends, good food! Thanks to the Red Sea crew for all their help today at the ramp, on the water and cleaning and cooking.  Sleeping good tonight!

Ahi Cartoons

Small junk surf today so time to get the fishing gear ready for Ahi Season.  I remember Saturday morning cartoons watching Bugs Bunny, Flinstones, then as I got older I watched Gilligans Island, Brady Bunch after school.  Now that I'm older I watch Ahi fishing cartoons all day long?  Ha ha! rated AL: adult language, inappropriate for children Click here to Watch Cartoon

Beautiful day and building swell up north. Surfed Haleiwa to mix it up a bit since my spot was washing thru.

NOAA Fish Survey

Got results from a survey I participated in last year with some interesting facts. Seems like a lot of trollers out there and lot of fisherman are open to more bag limits and size restrictions to help sustain our fisheries. 

Secret Colors

Women shop at Macy's, Men shop at Sportshops, like POP. Saw Puna Apio shopping for his secret colors for this ahi season. The "doo doo boy" does damage. Run these skirts on black chrome heads, winnah! Good luck fishing!

Live or Die

Windy week ahead so locked up in the edit bay as I found another gem. We saw a lot of fish and had to be selective in which fish we would take and which we would let live. Stay tuned for an upcoming HSDTV show.

Surf Edit Nap

Another northwest swell arrived with some nice sets with handful of guys. Grabbed a few on my 6'4 and came in as the crowd arrived. 

Started editing another hsdtv show and brought  back good memories. Nick with a big Ono.

We even had nap time between dives to recharge. Rob Torelli in the left corner, nick on the back, me on the couch and Sean must have took this pic. Ha ha!

Wax on wax off!

Morning surf up north, grabbed a few with the boys and came home to polish boat. I like this polish and seems to do the job. Hard part is waxing the bottom. Good work out, waxing on and waxing off. Anybody welcome to come work out anytime with me.

Taba surfboards

Aloha Friday surf up north with a Timmy and Taba. Mixed north and northeast swell with solid overhead waves and no crowd again. Timmy eyeing out a new board Taba made last night.  Looking like a windy week ahead so good time to plan your next Red Sea Ocean Adventure.

Wet Wild Score

Pulled up to find Lotsa parking and super cold and windy weather. Few guys running back to their car saying not so good.  But not us eastsiders.  We are used to this and as long as it's rideable we are on! Grabbed some fun overhead waves with only the boys, scored!

Anybody selling a yeti 350 tundra? Need for fit couple big ahi.

Ahi Season Prep

Ahi season just around the corner.  Just making sure boat is tuned up. Crew getting sea legs ready cause if the fish are biting we are going.

Spotting birds are key and watch for high flyers. James is an expert bird watcher.

And Als sandwiches gives us motivation to hook up before lunch. Cause after you eat this it's nap time.

Taking my reels in for service today as well. Gaji lures all ready as well. Ahi season 2016 is going to be fun!

HSDTV on location

Morning shoot with Merlinda Garma. The elements of noise, sun and people can often be challenging when filming on location. Timing is everything!

Celebrated my nephew Kai's birthday today and cooled off with some ice tea.

My bodyguard

Another fun morning session up north. Pulled up to see a dozen cars with 5 guys in the water, 4 of them I knew. Head high nuggets with Lotsa kids surfing.

My bodyguard kahai in the lineup so I can catch any wave I want. Ha ha! Great to see the whole family there.
