Checked weather last night and knew today was the day! Wendell and I made it to the harbor early and as we were loading up we see this huge longline boat pull in and block us in. After a few kind words they move the boat and we were off. I had a special request to catch an ahi for a special girl.
After a week of diving we both were having a little dose of fever so getting lines in eased the pain and withdrawals. I think both Wendell and myself need to attend "AA" meetings soon. I hear Ahi Anonymous meetings help those addicted to Ahi.
We found a nice bird pile and BAM! BAM! Double Otaru. Ginormous akus close to 25 lbs. now 6 boats see us hook up and start following. What,Nobody's catching? We get another strike! One more Otaru on ice. We decide to check out some other place with less boats. A few birds flying then the reel action starts. Port Outrigger slams then starboard rigger. Double! We put one in the boat in 15 min then start working the second fish. It seems light but then it wakes up and dives down.
25 minutes later we get it in the boat. This monkey we thought turned out was a gorilla, Prob close to the 200 lb range. Too bad our fishing tournament ended last week.
We were back early prepping the fishes for our families to enjoy.
This one is for that special girl, who is celebrating her graduation party.
Congratulations Erin for this is your special day. This fish was meant to be and had your name written all over it!
Here Erin and her brother Kurt with their special fish. I think I'm going to quit fishing now...
...Not!
