South Point Dive

The winds picked up and we decided to dive south point and look for onos today. Kimi Apiki and Merlinda Garma flew in super excited to try and land their first blue water fish. Their guides would be Hanalei Adric and Calvin Lai.

We swam and swam but were unable to find the onos, but Kimi and Calvin were able to find some big he'e (octopus). Kimi also speared two malolo (flying fish) which was unheard of.

I seen this kayak fisherman, mark quizon hooked up so I swam over to film him. His pole bent over and the fight was on. Nice shibi!

After the dive we had a BBQ and big party.

Thank you to the Lai ohana for their hospitality and awesome dinner.

Kona catch kgmb

Another fun day on the Kona coast with Wendell, puna, and Ernie. Captain Nate is cool and keeping us entertained.

You must be careful when you nap on the boat. Here Ernie took a power nap and had some bait planted on him.
Puna speared a nice kamanu and it was filleted and into the freezer.
I got to learn how to bottom fish with handline and got this nice shibi that made my day complete.
Dinner at quinns and ready for some sleep. Oh don't forget to watch the news at 10 pm on kgmb.

Dream Day!

These past few days have been a dream. Everyday we walk past this huge marlin on the way out of our hotel and stare at it and wonder what if...
Then we ride out of honakahao harbor and stare at all these dream boats. But today was the day! The day a dream came true for one of our Hawaii skin divers.
The day was slow and were going to call it quits but the last call was made and the dream fish appeared! Everything happened so fast but were blessed today from above with a fish of a lifetime captured all on film.  Stay tuned for an excited episode of Hawaii skin diver tv.
The prize, the gift, the blessing that just made history to one of the most humble man on earth, Wendell Ko.  We are so proud and honored to have been here to witness this special day.
We came in early and headed out to Teshimas restaurant for a fabulous dinner to celebrate the day we will never forget.
This is teshisoku plate no. 3.  So good!
We all slept so good! Here Ernie catching some zzzz.

Monster Fish Speared

OMG! Monster fish jus taken! Stay tuned for details...

Kona day one

Arrived 530 am Kona international airport and our taxi was waiting for us. Loaded up the truck and headed straight to the gas station to get air.

Inflated our dive floats and we were all set to go!
10 minutes later we were on the boat and unpacked on a 28 ft radon.
A couple hours later we had fish on the boat! Mahi Mahis!
And an Ono to top it off.  Great day on the water. Tomorrow up at 5 am and ready for round 2.

Surf & Pack

Good aloha Monday! Small waves all over but if you know where to look you could find a few chest/shoulder high waves. Only 12 guys in the line up so went for a quick one.  Caught my share and came in before the afternoon crowd.
Then came home to pack for our next trip. No that's not golf clubs but my dive gear. Seems like golfers don't get charged extra luggage fees but surfers do.  Looking forward to filming and diving with my good friends Puna, Wendell and Ernie the next few days!  Stay tuned and hope we get lucky!
