Good Times in Kona

Finally got to download my pictures from my camera and got a few keepers for sure!  Check out this sick one of Wendell Ko bringing up his Yellowfin Tuna!  I had my video camera rolling as I followed him down to nail this fish as Puna and Merlinda was in the stands watching the whole thing unfold.  There were at least 20 boats all around us fishing hooking up and we must have saw 6 ahis feeding on our chum on this drop.  There were some big boys coming up but just out of range.

We also came across a couple dozen mahis and got Puna and Wendell spearing some nice ones!  This school of Mahis is by far my most memorable one yet.  Just seeing them swim and getting the shots was amazing.

Until the Tax Man showed up!  I hear Puna calling for help and I jump in to see this big Oceanic White tip trying to attack him and eat his fish.  I give um a few pokes and put Puna in back of me while I fend of the shark.  It was non stop action!

Home Safe!

Yes! We are on our way home! See those whitecaps in the ocean? Not a good day to be on the ocean.  

Then seeing the rain in Honolulu was worse than Kona. I think the brunt of the storm will arrive early morning on Oahu. Be safe everyone!

On Standby

Another beautiful day in Kona Hawaii! Rain and wind coming so gonna try and get home sooner.

Me and Merlinda on standby...hope we get on soon otherwise we will be seeking shelter. Should I put on my wetsuit yet?

Calm before the storm

Today Merlinda Garma came to join us for a dive. She was ready to do some blue water diving with the boys.

We showed her how to catch Aku, and did some filming. The water was so calm today you would never believe the weather will change.

Found the mother load of Mahis! Got more insane video for a future hsd episode.

Wendell also landed a nice ahi to finish our day off before the storm arrives tomorrow afternoon. 

Fish in the box!

Today our plan was to leave at 500 am and get to the spot before everyone else . We hook akus and load up so we can chum.

Fish goes in the bucket and after a dozen fish we cut it up into small pieces.

We saw some big ahis today and I got lucky with this one. It came in range and i let him taste my shaft. Stoked!

Kona warm up dive

Woke up 230 am headed to airport at 330 am and made it to Kona by 6 am. And on the boat by 700 am.

We are on a. 26 foot radon. Lots of room for all our gear. Boys got a few shots off on big ahis but didn't connect yet. 

Did fill up the cooler with lots of shibis, Aku, rainbow runners and mahi. Tomorrow we try again for the elusive ahi. 

Small South Swell

Little bump in town past 3 days continues. Not the best direction but better than nothing. Surf should subside slowly but keep an eye our for some wind and rain on Friday.

Hurricane Iselle should dissipate into a tropical depression in next few days so keep an eye out for latest updates. Gonna bust out my dive gear next few days while the weather is nice.
